An Opportunity for Inspiration...
The Adirondacks are one of the world's highly regarded natural treasures.
The Park's natural canvas of wonders has attracted a unique diverse human habitat that in addition to illustrious pioneers and recreationalists also inspired philosophers, artists, healers and naturalists.
These different human and natural habitats over time have combined to create a unique "Adirondack spirit." This can be seen by unique natural features, history, culture and economy. Many were inspired by these Great Woods ranging from the esteemed 19th C "Philosopher Camp" of Thoreau and Longfellow to Theodore Roosevelt a noted conservationist before he became President on that fateful day in the Adirondacks.
The Adirondack Park has been called the "great experiment" of man and nature and provides a natural backdrop to educational experiences that integrates a holistic view of man and nature.
An 'Adirondack Spirit'
It is this holistic vision that formed Adirondack Spirit. Through educational experiences that focus on visions for the future, it is our goal to inspire the discussion that achieving individual wellness, a healthy human spirit and a healthy natural environment are symbiotic.
We hope to lift up this discussion by inspiring people and to elevate the Adirondack Park's storied sense of place as a world renowned center for inspiration.
Our mission-based goals for Adirondack Spirit an emerging non-profit educational organization are:
- To provide opportunities to facilitate greater awareness on a holistic view of humanity and nature
- create the environment to develop new ideas
- to foster pragmatic solutions for the future related to this integrated vision.
It is our objective to support this mission through...
- Educational programs,
- Experiential learning opportunities and
- Outreach.
Our priorities include:
- Bringing thought leaders across the globe to elevate this integrated view of man and nature and
- To provide support to regional and local initiatives as well as Adirondack organizations involved in this endeavor.
Founders Cathy and Ernest Hohmeyer provide passion and experience. Cathy's family were noted 19th C Adirondack pioneers and Ernest is a national award winning community sustainability specialist with over 25 years of being involved in the Park.
The Lake Clear Lodge & Retreat represents one of the last original Adirondack lodges still open to the public and provides a National Geographic Traveler award winning "sense of place".
To support the Adirondack Spirit mission, a hand-crafted Adirondack Great Camp Retreat Center was recently completed which overlooks picturesque and secluded Lake Clear, where Einstein contemplated and in the window of NYS only wilderness canoe region and home to the Philosopher's Camp.
