Hohmeyer’s Lodge on Lake Clear reviewed in Cape Air’s in-flight magazine.

Thursday, March 19th, 2009

Cape Air, which serves the Lake Clear Airport, as well as may other national destinations, has recently sent a reviewer into our midst for their Bird’s Eye View in-flight magazine. Paul Kandarian and his son dropped in on The Lodge to get a taste for what we are all about.

Only 10 minutes from the Saranac Lake Airport and 20 minutes from Lake Placid, Kandarian says, “step off the flight at the Saranac Lake Airport and into the past at the nearby Hohmeyer’s Lodge on Lake Clear, a classic inn in the heart or the Adirondacks, one of the most beautiful places in upstate New York.” (2008, p.51)

He goes on to talk about some of our rooms saying they are, “wonderfully appointed, embracing the simple elegance of Adirondack life, and unsullied by television.”  Without the televisions our guests get to relax and forget about the real world for just a little while. They have time to hike our trails, or to enjoy bird watching, or even canoe on the sunny lake.

Kandarian writes about a bit of our history and the meal he enjoyed, “It was Cathy’s family who built the lodge in 1886, and she is a phenomenal chef, using local organic products to create up a dozen nightly specials varying from vegetables strudels to stroganoffs to Adirondack game and old-world schnitzels.” Cathy uses only the freshest ingredients and uses special old-world techniques to bring out all the nutrients of the food and our guest only have to enjoy taste.

After selecting a cool beer from our extensive Rathskeller, Kandarian settled for an appetizer of smoked meat from the lodge’s smoke house and the stroganoff. He declared, “It was immense, filling and perfect for a chilly night in the mountains.”

Kandarian concludes, “For total relaxing of the body and intellectual warming of the mind, there’s no better place then Hohmeyer’s Lodge on Lake Clear.”

We think you will agree, fly in and stay with us, we are only a few minutes from the small airport that Cape Air serves and has daily direct flights from Boston and Albany. A short flight brings you to the heart to of the mountains and to our place where you can indulge yourself in a relaxing weekend.
